Help Shape the Future of a Key Regional Livestock Facility

The Wangaratta Livestock Exchange (WLE) Committee of Management is seeking expressions of interest from experienced, community-minded professionals to join its Committee.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute your professional expertise to the governance and strategic direction of one of North East Victoria's key livestock facilities.  Working collaboratively with the Committee, General Manager and the Rural City of Wangaratta, you will help ensure the WLE continues to operate safely, sustainably and in the best interests of its users and the broader community.

About the Wangaratta Livestock Exchange

The Wangaratta Livestock Exchange is a significant regional livestock centre that supports producers, livestock agents, transport operators and the broader agricultural industry across North East Victoria. 

The WLE is governed by the Committee of Management that provides strategic leadership, governance and oversight of the facility.  The Committee works closely with the General Manager, who leads a dedicated and experienced team responsible for the day-to-day operations of the WLE, while maintaining a strong and collaborative relationship with the Rural City of Wangaratta and other key industry stakeholders. 

Whether your background is in finance, governance, human resources, business or agriculture, if you are passionate about supporting regional communities and the agricultural sector, we encourage you to apply.

About the Role

As a Committee Member, you will play an important governance role by: 

  • Providing strategic leadership

  • Supporting sound financial management and the long-term sustainability

  • Contributing to governance, risk management and legislative compliance

  • Supporting and guiding the General Manager

  • Acting as a key liaison with the Rural City of Wangaratta

  • Working alongside the Committee to make informed strategic decisions

  • Ensuring decisions are made in the best interests of the WLE, stakeholders and the wider community.

Committee meetings are generally held monthly, with occasional additional meetings or strategic planning sessions throughout the year.

Skills we’re looking for

The Committee is looking to strengthen its collective capability across several areas.  We encourage applications from people who can contribute expertise in one or more of the following disciplines: 

  • Finance, accounting or auditing

  • Corporate governance or previous board/committee experience

  • Human resources or organisational development

  • Legal, compliance or risk management

  • Business ownership or executive leadership

  • Agriculture, livestock production or agribusiness

  • Property, infrastructure or asset management

  • Community engagement or stakeholder relations.

You don't need to come from the livestock industry, however, a genuine interest in agriculture and supporting regional communities will be highly regarded.

You will also demonstrate:

  • Strategic thinking and sound judgement

  • High ethical standards and integrity

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • The ability to work collaboratively and contribute constructively

  • A commitment to good governance and continuous improvement.

Previous board or committee experience is welcomed but not essential.

Remuneration

Committee Members receive remuneration in recognition of their contribution.  Further details will be provided to shortlisted applicants.
